This week started with warm weather and a constantly changing mix of rain and sunshine. There were tiny signs of spring beginning to poke out into the warmth and light. The snowdrops in my parent's front yard are in full bloom, and many other bulbs will follow with their blooms soon! I love this time of year, when new greenery appears nearly every day. I know soon enough my impatience for long summer days of hiking in the mountains will make me tire of spring, but for now I'll continue to be on high alert for every sign of spring.

Another week of plague kept me mostly inactive, and so exhausted. For one terrible day, I even felt too sick to knit! Even so, I'm getting very close to finishing the sweater I've been knitting for myself. I'm amazed that I'll actually be finishing it in time to get some use out of it before summer. Most days this week, by the time I'd finished work, I was too tired to do much of anything but burrow under a blanket and binge watch Netflix until bedtime. By Sunday morning, after finally getting a god night's sleep, I was feeling mostly better and having a major case of cabin fever. It only took a little convincing to get Andy to agree to a short hike to Wallace Falls. Even in the rain, this was a beautiful hike, and exactly what I'd needed! As we hiked, I kept an eye out for signs of spring, but there were none to be found - or at least none my eye could catch.

After spending the past several weeks boasting to anyone who would listen that since I work from home have to worry about catching illnesses from coworkers, I spent the later half of this week ironically and miserably sick myself. Luckily, disease didn't strike until after the lovely snowy Monday we had in the Seattle area. While it only lasted for about a day and a half, it was the most snow we've had in the area since 2008! We may get a lot of rain here in the PNW, but lowland snow is a rarity - one which must be enjoyed. I took several slippery walks around Redmond before the snow was washed away by heavy rain on Wednesday. Late in the week, when our winter wonderland had turned to sunny, warm weather I was too sick to get outside and enjoy the lovely spring-like days. At least I know that as we creep toward spring, I'll have plenty more opportunities for soaking up spring sunshine!

This week was a little bit of everything. Early in the week, I saw friends posting photos of the first flowers of the year beginning to bloom. By midweek, it was pouring rain, and by Sunday evening, we had snow! I love the dramatic variety of weather we sometimes get here in the Pacific Northwest. I remember a comic in the Seattle Times I saw when I first moved here with my family that said "If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes." Weeks like this remind me of that comic. It's been several years since we've had a good snow day in the Seattle area, and while I felt ready for the start of spring at the start of the week, I'm so glad we got one good snowstorm in! All this unpredictable, winter weather has meant lots of time spent inside knitting. I've made good progress on my sweater, and at this rate, might even have it finished before summer!

After spending last weekend in the snowy mountains, this weekend, we headed in the opposite direction for Andy's family cabin on Whidbey Island. It was a weekend filled with good friends, good food, and late nights. These cabin weekends are the perfect solution for the gloomy winter days. It certainly helps that the days are gradually getting longer. The sun is once again setting after 5 PM, and soon I'll still have plenty of daylight left for walks after work, rather than trying to find time for long lunch walks during my busy work days. Until then, I'll keep enjoying the quiet cozy days of winter while they last!
